Experimental study on inhibiting water surface evaporation of reservoir in arid region

In Northwest China,water shortage is very serious due to lower precipitation and higher evaporation,and water resources have become the " bottleneck" of regional sustainable social economic development. Those studies related to water saving techniques have been the focal points for a long time. Among those,most studies were focused on techniques of water utilization and transportation. However,in recent time,studies on how to inhibit water surface evaporation of reservoirs became a new direction in water saving technology. To counteract this,we proposed reducing invalid evaporation from plain reservoirs by benzene board covering technology. In field experiments,we measured the efficiency of the evaporation reduction rate of water,analyzed the connection and fixation mode for stabilizing the benzene boards,and discussed engineering measures of water saving by preventing water from evaporating from the plain reservoirs in drought areas. Experimental results showed that invalid evaporation from plain reservoirs was reduced by as much as 51. 25%. Based on the relation of energy equilibrium and according to the Penman method,we found piecewise relation for calculation of water surface evaporation. Aiming at this,piecewise relation for calculation of water surface evaporation was found. The model has been tested and verified with monthly temperature data. The results showed that its average relative error is less than 10%,their confidence levels all reach to 90%. The results show that it is not only more reasonable,but also has fewer errors than the others.
