The influence of vegetation types on the soil moistures during growing season in Loess area

There is less vegetation in loess area and where the climate is drought. Dried layer of soil is a special hydrological phenomenon caused by the excessive water consumption,and leads to a condition of negative- balance water. The experiment determined the soil moisture content of two plant species under 0- 600 cm from April to October,and the conclusions were as follows: the range of soil moisture was: bare land Pinus tabulaeformis- Populus simonii land,and the values were 8. 65%- 18. 25%,8. 21%- 14. 60%,respectively. There were moderate dried layers in Pinus tabulaeformis- Populus simonii land in 570- 600 cm layer and bare land at0- 20 cm layer; there were no mild dried layer or severe dried layer. The mean soil moisture content was: bare land Pinus tabulaeformis- Populus simonii land,and the values were( 14. 85 ± 3. 53) %,( 11. 55 ± 2. 72) %respectively. It showed a quadratic curve between the soil moisture content and soil depth,the equation was y =0. 024 x + 12. 426; the soil water content showed an increasing trend with soil depth on the whole. There was a positive correlation between the soil moisture content and sampling time,vegetation types,and soil depth( P 0. 01).
