The influence of distance weight and grade distribution on the inverse distance weighted method

In this research,to study the influence of distance weight and grade distribution on the estimation results,the Inverse Distance Weighted( IDW) was used to estimate the Ni grade and Mg O grade in serpentinite ore. Manhattan distance,Euclidean distance,Chebyshev distance and other forms of Minkowski distance were used for distance weight. The results show that it was feasible to use Minkowski distance for distance weight calculation. The research gave the variation rule of valuation deviations. The valuation results of IDW were relatively stable as Minkowski distance power( p value) was less than 11,whereas the valuation effect became worse as the power was greater than 11. The research expands the calculation method of distance weight in IDW. A new way to improve the accuracy of valuation is given,researchers can choose different weight calculation methods according to their needs. In this study,when the power of Minkowski distance was 3,the valuation effect was the best,and the deviations of mean values of Ni and Mg O were-3. 77% and-2. 99%,respecitively.
