Study on Exceptional Wear of Screw Shaft Groove in High-precision Ball screw

It was find that the wear of groove surface of screw shaft in precision ball screw is more severe than that of the nut groove. The reasons resulted in this phenomenon are analyzed by calculating the elastic contact stress and lubrication state between balls and groove in this paper. The results indicate that the contact stress between balls and the groove of screw shaft is higher than between balls and groove of nut, and the lubrication state between balls and the groove of screw shaft is worse than between balls and the groove of nut. This work provided an important theoretic basis for the optimal design and lubrication of ball screws.
