Does Regional Trade Agreements Decrease Members’ Antidumping Threat:an Analysis of Chinese Experience
ZHANG Yan XIE Jian-guo
This paper examines empirically the effects of regional trade agree-ments(RTAs) concluded among China and other countries on incidence of anti-dumping(AD) filings by contracting members.Adopting multinational panel data it exploits the fact that RTAs have increased rather than decreased AD appeal ac-tions brought by one member against another, moreover,China was more likely to encounter AD appeals relative to others due to trade and product structural similarities. It also studies whether there is a connection between AD appeals and current account balance as well as real exchange rate and GDP growth, the results show that currency appreciation and trade deficit both increased AD ap-peals.The study can be referred to understanding why China faced so many AD cases. In the end it gives some suggestions.
