PS: A Computer Program for Searching Protein Motifs Basedon the PROSITE Database

(received Aug. 26, 1993, revised Nov. 21 )Wang Huaichun, He Ying(Institute of Medical Information, Beijing 100850)
protein motif is a list of conserved residues occuring at specific Positions along a sequence anddefining function or structure of a protein. PROSITE is a library of those sites and Patterns found in proteinsequences and developed by A. Bairoch. Based on the database, a program called PPS, written in Ccomputer language, is developed to search protein sequence for motifs, which provides a new tool forprotein sequence analysis and structure and function research.
