ANCHITHERIUM FROM THE MIDDLE MIOCENE HALAMAGAI FORMATION OF NORTHERN JUNGGAR BASIN, XINJIANG

A fragmentary lower jaw with most cheek teeth collected from the lower Halamagai Fm. at the Dingshan salt lake and other specimens from the vicinity provide additional morphology of the genus and an opportunity to review the material of Anchitherium of China. Specimens examined include a left M1/2 (V 8615) from Chibaerwoyi (site 82503) and newly collected specimens including a left M1/2 (V 14289) and a right p3/4 (V 14292) from Tieersihabahe; a left M3 (V 14290) from Analagashi; a fragmentary right mandible with p3~m3 and alveolus of p2 (V 14291) from Dingshan salt lake; a right p2 (V 14327), a right m3 (V 14328) and a right astragalus (V 14293) from Duolebulejin.
