Preparation and Characteristics of Doped Ceria-Base Electrolytes Ce_(0.8)Sm_(0.2-x)Y_xO_(1.9)

Powders of Ce0.8Sm0.2-xYxO1.9(x=0,0.05,0.10,0.15,0.20) are synthesized by nitrate-citric acid method to prepare electrolyte ceramic.Their structure,morphology,sintering property,electric conductivity to the sintered body and conductance activation energy are studied.The open circuit voltage and discharge voltammetry characteristics at different working temperatures of the SOFC cell which is made by the electrolyte are measured.The experimental results show that the Ce0.8Sm0.2-xYxO1.9 has high electrical conductivity and low activity energy.The output power and short circuit current density of the SOFC cell made by Ce0.8Sm0.2-xYxO1.9 is great.The maximum output power density can meet the practical demands at 700~800 ℃.The Ce0.8Sm0.2-xYxO1.9 material can be used as the electrolyte for SOFC.
