Nolinear Optical Interpenetrating Polymer Networks

Huang Xudong GuoJunshi Xie Hongquan (Department of Chemistry, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074)  
Interpenetrating polymer networks(IPNs) based on polyurethane and polyacrylate containing4-(4'-nitrophenylazo) aniline chromophores were synthesized -and characterized by IR spectra, gel content, DSC, and SEM. The thin, transparent films of the IPNs were prepared by spin-coating, followed by .thermal curing and corona poling. The poled IPN film shows very good optical properties. The second-ordernonlinear optical polarizability can reach 10-7esu. The poled IPN film with certain composition showed a good temporal stability of NLO properties at 120℃ for a long period of time.
