"Living" Radical Polymerization of Methyl Methacrylate Using CuBr as Catalyst in [Hmim][CH_3COO]

"Living" radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate was investigated in a new reaction system.Ethyl 2-bromoisobutyrate/CuBr/[Hmim][CH_3COO]/MMA,in which [Hmim][CH_3COO] ionic liquid is a good solvent to CuBr.The polymerization belongs to an ATRP process.The effect of initiator concentration on the polymerization was examined.With the increasing of the concentration of initiator,the efficiency of initiation decreases.The polymerization is well controlled and exhibited living characteristics at 50 ℃.PMMA obtained by this procedure are narrow disposed.PDI is less than 1.26.
