Knietics of Oxygen Reduction on Conductive Polyaniline/MnO_2 Cathode

The kinetics of oxygen reduction on conductive polyaniline/MnO_2 electorde was investigated by methods of potentiodynamic polarization and AC(alternating current) impedance.The polarization curves show oxygen reduction rather well fit to Butler-Volmer equation,and its standard apparent activation ene-rgy is 184.9 kJ/mol,which indicate the rate determining step is the first electron transfer process.The AC impedance spectra in different overpotentials also show two high frequency capacitive loops and one low frequency inductive loop,which confirms the electrochemical reduction of oxygen consists of three steps.When the overpotential value increases,the first high frequency capacitive loop decreases dramatically implying that the first step is rate determining step,which is in accord with the result of polarization curve.It is the compound conductive polyaniline with high surface acreage and micro-capillary structure that made the oxygen reduction proceed easily.
