Investigation on cold damage symptoms induced by continuous cold weather and analysis on cold-resistant characteristics of field-grown Jackfruits

The experiment was designed to select the Jackfruit with strong cold-resistant characteristics.Eight field-grown Jackfruit(Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) strains(E1 to E8) were used to investigate the chilling damage symptoms after continuous cold weather.The cold-resistant characteristics among them were contrasted and classified,and some physiological indexes on their cold-resistant characteristics were also measured and correlated with the chilling damage degrees.The results showed that the continuous cold weather could result in chilling damage of Jackfruit strains,and the damage degree depends on their cold-resistant abilities.Of all the eight Jackfruit strains,four of them were first-class chilling damage;three of them were second-class chilling damage;one of them was third-class chilling damage.There were a significantly positive correlation between the value of leaf conductivity and the chilling damage degree,a significant negative correlation between the soluble sugar content and the chilling damage degree,and no significant correlation between the vitamin C content and the chilling damage degree of Jackfruit strains.In conclusion,the Jackfruit strains with strong cold-resistant characteristics were E8,E6,E5 and E3.The physiological indexes of the leaf conductivity and soluble sugar content could be used for evaluating the cold-resistant characteristics of Jackfruit strains.
