Effect of CPPU on the Fruit Growth of 'Liaofu' Apple Cultivar

Aqueous solutions of CPPU[N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N’-phenylurea]were sprayed on ‘Liaofu’applefruit 2 and 3 weeks after full-bloom. The results revealed that CPPU at 20mg·1￣(-1) or 40mg·1￣(-1) stimulatedfruit growth both in longitudinal and latitudinal dianieter,and increased the fruit weight(in 18%-20%),thefruit L/D ratio and the fruit edible rate significantly. The influences on brix and titratable acidity varied withconcentrations and timing. CPPU at 20mg·1￣(-1) was recommended to be used by spraying on fruitlet 3 weeksafter full-bloom for apple commercial production in Hubei Province and South China.
