The Origin ,Evolution and Classification of Apple Cultivars in China

A brief description was made in this paper on 3 groups and 5 lines of Malus genus. Based on ripeningdate,apple cultivars,mainly Malus pumila cultivars,were divided into 3 types,including 15 categories and 2additional categories. Each category was briefly introduced about it's cultivars,cultivar habits and the evolu-tion line of descent.The original names,code names, released years and selecting or breeding places werechecked and pointed out.More than 400 cultivars were involved,nearly including almost all the apple culti-vars collected in China. A simple parentage and classification of apple cultivars in China was described andconfusion of the origin and evolution of some cultivars were clarified.
