Thoughts on the food security and farmers income in Gansu

The new food security outlook was advanced under the economic globalization trend. It fully realized the social attribute of food and emphasized to take the social attribute of food as mainline and seek ways to solve the food security problem from a systematic standpoint. In the paper, the concept and the economic explanation of new food security outlook were introduced. The present situation and comparative advantage of food production, the actuality of agricultural structural adjustment and features of farmers income in Gansu province were analyzed. Meanwhile through evaluating and analyzing the future prospect of food security, the author concluded that under the traditional food security outlook, the food security condition in the future of Gansu province may not be of optimism and that only by setting up new food security outlook, implementing the new food security strategy and implementing food trade could Gansu achieve the object of food security. At last it was suggested that the food security problem should be viewed from various angles such as government market and farmer, and it was vital that several measures should be taken in order to increase the farmers’income. Thus the trade of food could have a strong economic safeguard.
