Estimate on the Effect of Vehicle Heat Source on Road Surface Temperature in Winter

Snow and road freezing have an important influence on road use and traffic safety operation. Therefore,to improve the forecast ability of road surface temperature(RST) in winter has become the business needs. Because of car parc and heavy traffic in Beijing,the vehicles travelling on the road have a big impact on RST. In order to estimate the effects of vehicles on RST and improve the simulation ability to RST in winter,the parameterization scheme of vehicle heat source was established based on considering the radiation,friction and heat convection factors,firstly. Then,the effect of vehicle heat source on RST was estimated,and on this basis RST in Wuyuan bridge of Beijing was simulated by CLM-road model. Results are as follows:(1) At night and during rush hours,the vehicle heat source was mainly affected by radiation and friction factors which played significant roles in heating on road surface,and there were two peaks with 65 W·m-2or above. At noon,the vehicle radiation,friction and thermal convection factors played cooling role on road surface,and the effect of thermal convection factor was more obvious.(2) Under the scenarios of only considering the meteorological elements,the low values of simulated RST were lower and the high values of simulated RST in winter in Wuyuan bridge of Beijing were higher compared with the observation,which indicated that there were some systematic errors in model simulation of RST,and the error of daily minimum RST between the simulation and observation was 5 ℃.(3) After the increase of the influence of vehicle heat source,the simulated RST eliminated the systematic error,and the effect of simulation had been greatly improved. CLM-road model with vehicle heat source would possess a certain reference value to snow disaster forecast in winter.
