Performance analysis of NRZ and CSRZ formats in 40 Gbit/s single channel transmission systems

The transmission performance of nonreturn-to-zero(NRZ) and carried-suppressed return-to-zero(CSRZ) in 40 Gbit/s single channel systems over 6×80 km G.652 fiber is described in this paper. The bandwidth requirement of optical and electrical filter of receiver is analyzed for NRZ and CSRZ formats. The comparison of power penalty in different fiber-input power of NRZ and CSRZ and residual dispersion of the two formats is investigated. It shows that the transmission performance of CSRZ is better than that of NRZ in high-speed systems.
