Effects of Stroke on Basic Cognitive Function

Objective:To observe characteristics of basic cognitive function of elderly patients with strokes.Methods:Eighty-nine elderly patients with strokes and 55 age-matched healthy controls were assessed by Basic Cognitive Capacity Test.Results:The average total score of patients with strokes were significantly lower than that of healthy controls(P0.05).Regression analysis showed that the speed of perception,efficacy of mental arithmetic and memory were decreased 16.4,8.1,9.1 times respectively than those in healthy people(P=0.001).Conclusion:There were evident impairments of speed of perception,efficacy of mental arithmetic and capability of memory in elderly patients with strokes who did not show significant disordered cognition.
