Objective To study the expression of livin and it's role in the genesisi and development of glioma. Methods 60 cases of paraffin imbedding specimen were chosen and immunohistochemistry staining were applied to detect the expression of Livin protein in brain glioma and to study the correlation between the Livin protein expression and the prognosis of glioma patients. The positive staining of Livin protein was the buffy or dark brown particle in cytoplasm. Results 44 of 60 cases glioma had positive Livin protein expression and the positive rate was 73.3%. With the combination of histopathological data, we found that the expression level of Livin protein was closely correlated to the differentiation degrees and tumor diameters of glioma. Cox proportional hazards regression model revealed that the Livin expression was an independent significant. factor for prognosis. Conclusions The expression level of Livin is closely correlated to the recurrence and prognosis of glioma, which indicates that Livin may be a valuable molecular marker of glioma.
