Advances of the hPOT1

Along with the intense experiment work,to better characterize the telomeres and telomerase enzymes,more and more efforts have been directed to other nuclear proteins named telomere binding proteins.Human protection of telomeres 1(hPOT1) protein and hpot1 gene was identified in 2001.hPOT1 is a single-stranded telomeric DNA binding protein with two important domains required for its function: OB fold(oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide binding fold) and TRF1(TTAGGG repeat binding foctor 1) protein interaction domain.hPOT1 binds with high sequence specificity and has a strong sequence preference for the human telomeric repeat d(TAGGGTTAG) when it presents at the 3′ end of the single-stranded DNA.hPOT1 may be a key multifunctional protein.In recent years,more and more researches focused on hPOT1 have emerged.
