Effects of Y_2O_3 Doping on Sintering Properties and Microstructure of CaTiO_3 Ceramics

CaTiO_3 ceramics were prepared at 1 300,1 400℃ for 3 hwith CaO and TiO_2 as raw materials and being doped with 0,1 wt%,2 wt%,3 wt%,and 4 wt% Y_2O_3.The effects of Y_2O_3 doping amount and sintering temperature on the phase composition,crystal structure,sintering properties and microstructure of the ceramics were investigated.The results show that the cell volume of CaTiO_3 first increased and then decreased with increasing Y_2O_3 doping amount.The substitution of Y~(3+) for Ti~(4+) increased the cell volume of CaTiO_3 while the substitution of Y~(3+) for Ca~(2+) reduced the cell volume.With the increase of Y_2O_3 doping amount or the rise of sintering temperature,both the sintering linear shrinkage rate and the bulk density of the ceramics increased.With the increase of Y_2O_3 doping amount,the microstructure of the ceramics became denser,the size of CaTiO_3 grains first increased and then decreased,and the grain shape changed from step-like morphology to regular polygons.
