Nonlinear effect under weak light

The nonlinear effect under weak light is in the foreland of multi_subjects. It breaks the limitation of damaging medium, frequency restraint and low efficiency in conventional nonlinear optics, and exhibits new features with quantum entanglement and quantum information. It is significant in detecting weak signal, probing micro_construction of the medium and making new type of laser quantum devices. The physical pictures and principles of the nonlinear effect under weak light are reviewed. The potential applications and new developments are also discussed.
