Contrast enhancement method based on dynamic histogram equalization

A dynamic histogram equalization algorithm was proposed to execute image contrast enhancement in display devices that displaying video signals. In the proposed algorithm, histogram equalization was executed in different gray scale according to the coefficient of contrast enhancement, which leads to contrast enhancement in different extent. To reduce the calculating burden and the frame memory for contrast enhancement, the method and its implementation of detecting the similarity between two adjacent input images are developed. When the input images are similar, the subsequent input image adopts the same mapping function for contrast enhancement as the preceding image. The simulation results show that the proposed contrast enhancement method can realize contrast enhancement in different extent, which improves the image quality of display devices effectively.
