DISASTER CONTRAST OF M5. 1 SHIQU AND M5. 0 DEGE EARTHQUAKES

According to the data of the spot investigation, seismic disaster with magnitude 5. 1 and 5. 0 occurred respectively in Shiqu and neighbouring Dege, Sichuan province, are described in this paper. The disaster characteristic and surrounding of two earthquakes have been contrasted. Although the magnitude of two events are almost indentical and the distance between the macro--epicenter is about 130km(strainght line distance), economic losses and social effects caused by Shiqu earthquake is very different from Dege event. The reason resulting in the disaster difference is mainly that freeze-expandeddamage before earthquake, physical geography surrounding and place condition of buildings in Shiqu earthquake area is different from Dege event area.
