The mechanisms of organic pollutants removal in coking-plant wastewater by coagulation

LU Jian hang, WANG Hong bin, LIU Wei ping (Chemistry Department, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China)  
The results of jar stirring test and the concentration change of each organic compound detected by GC/MS analysis in source and after treatment wastewater suggest that organic pollutants are mainly removed by complex sedimentation and floc adsorption mechanisms. The removal rate of each organic pollutant is highly depending on its molecular structure. Generally, organic pollutant having a strong ability to adsorb on hydroxide flocs or having a complex function group without steric hindrance is easy to be removed.
