Heavy metal pollution and the ecological risk in dust of main residential district of Jishou City

Heavy metal in dust from the main residential districts of Jishou city was studied and found at a high level of accumulation. The contents of Pb,Zn,Cu,Cr,Cd and Mn in the dust were296. 253 mg/kg,128. 253 mg/kg,146. 013 mg/kg,114. 47 mg/kg,34. 257 mg/kg and 396. 729mg/kg respectively,which were 68. 99 times,71. 29 times,109. 78 times,10. 46 times,110. 68 times and 52. 82 times of the background value. Heavy metal in the city center,railway station and Qianzhou was higher than that in the Shazi Ao,indicating that the heavy metal content in the dust of the residential area may be mainly due to pollution caused by traffic and industry. The potential ecological hazards caused by single heavy metal were ranked as follows: Cd Cu Pb Zn Cr; the potential ecological hazards of heavy metals in the surveyed residential areas of Jishou city reached a considerable high level.
