Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Copper in Commerieal Sugar with Bisacetaldehyde Oxalyldihydrazone

Experiments of spectrophotometric deterrnination of trace copper in com-mercial sugar with bisacetaldehydc o xalyldihydrazoae h ave been carried out,based on the fact that copper ion and bisacetaldehyde oxalyldihydrazone will produce 1: 2 stable purple complex at pH 9 .5 approximately. Methods of determination, reagents preparation and sample handling are introduced.Expetimental results show that the procedure of this method is simpler than that of sodiutn-N-diethyl dithiocarbamate; it is rnore sensitive, accurate and interference-free. It is considered that this method can replace that of sodium-N-diethyl dithiocarbamate.
