Antioxidative Effect of Metformin on Hepatic Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats

OBJECTIVE To investigate the antioxidative effect of metformin on hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats. METHODS 30 SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups,including sham operation group,solvent group,metforminhigh-dose group( 200 mg · kg~(-1)),middle-dose group( 100 mg·kg~(-1)),low-dose group( 50 mg·kg~(-1)). The changes of liver biochemical markers and pathology were assessed. RESULTS After reperfusion for 4 h,compared with the solvent group,in the metformin group,the contents of alanine aminotransferase( ALT),aspartate aminotransferase( AST) in the serum,malondialdehyde( MDA) in the liver tissue and the liver cells damage was decreased. The content of MDA in the middle-dose group was lower than the other metformin groups( P 0. 05). CONCLUSION Metformin can alleviate hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury,and has antioxidative effect on liver cells in rats.
