Preparation and Performance of Spinel-Zirconia Composites

The high purity magnesia,Calcined alumina and zirconia were used as raw materials,and 2% TiO2 were used as sintering additives,the samples were molded for 100 MPa and sintered at 1600 ℃ for 3h.After that,spinel-zirconia composites were obtained.The effect of zirconia and TiO2 sintering additives on the sintering performance and thermal shock resistance of the composites was studied.Results indicated that MAZ specimen compared MA spinel,thermal shock resistance of MAZ specimen with 10 wt% ZrO2 is better.The MAZ composites with 2% TiO2 has a compact microstructure,it is direct bonding between the crystal grains,its volume density is 3.42 g·cm-3,and the bending strength is 48.54 MPa,Themal shock resistance are improved.So it is suitable for application in cement rotary kiln as clinkering zone refractory.
