Effects of dietary Lactobacillus on growth performance,muscle composition and immunity of Babylonia areolata

The effects of dietary Lactobacillus on growth performance,muscle composition and immunity of spotted babylon snail(Babylonia areolata)were studied in the present study.The spotted babylon snail(initial average weight 0.62g)were fed experimental diets with three different doses of Lactobacillus(1.2×10~7 CFU/100 g,1.2×10~8 CFU/100 g and 1.2×10~9 CFU/100g)for 10 weeks,respectively.Results showed that dietary Lactobacillus had no effects on both growth performance and body composition of Babylonia areolata.SOD activity was improved in snail fed diet supplemented with 1.2×10~7 CFU/100 g Lactobacillus.However,dietary Lactobacillus in doses of 1.2×108 CFU/100 g and 1.2×10~9 CFU/100 g inhibited the SOD activity.ACP activity decreased in snail fed diet supplemented with 1.2×10~9 CFU/100 g.Both CAT and AKP activities did not affect by dietary Lactobacillus.These results indicated that dietary Lactobacillus did not affect the growth performance and body composition of Babylonia areolata.To a certain degree,dietary Lactobacillus in dose of 1.2×10~7CFU/100 g would improve the antioxidant activity of Babylonia areolata,but higher dose of Lactobacillus would restrain the immune functions.
