The supermolecular structure and mechanical properties of PVA yarns drawnwith different drawing ratioes were studied. Under the test conditions. as the in-creasing of drawing ratio, the density. crystallinity and crystalline melting tem-perature as well as orientation increase. The thermal analytical results of swollenPVA yarn also show that the lateral order of the yarn is improved as the drawingratio increases, but the lateral order distribution becomes more narrow. Moreover.the solvent contained in gel-fiber has significant effect on the drawability, thestructure and properties of drawn fiber.After the gel fiber is extracted to a centainextent. its drawability raises obviously. thus the mechanical properties of PVAfiber are improved.
