Synthesis of poly (lactic acid) by solution polymerization

Poly (lactic acid) was prepared with L -Isctic acid as monomer and diphenyl ether and decahydronaphthalene as solvents by solution polymerization. The relatively high molecular weight mass of the product can be achieved with diphenyl ether as a solvent by gradually decreasing pressure and increasing temperature. The effects of feedstocks drying, solvents, reaction time and temperature on the molecular weight mass of the product were discussed. The results showed that the optimal reaction conditions were as followed; lactic acid-and-dyphenyl ether volume ratio 2/3, mass fraction of SnCl2 catalyst 0. 5% based on monomer, reaction time 24 h and temperature 160 ℃.
