Study on compatibility of PBT/PET blend systems

Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were melted and blended to prepare PBT/ PET blend systems. The melt temperature of PBT/PET blend system was determined as 275 -285℃ according to viscosity accordance principle. The PBT/PET blend chips can be produced at 283℃. The compatibility of PBT/PET blend systems was studied. The results showed that the PBT/PET blend systems showed the enthalpy less than 41. 8 mJ, which belonged to thermo-dynamic compatible system. The phase separation was observed at the interface between PBT and PET by scanning electron microscopy. The more close to 1 the mass fraction ratio of PBT and PET was, the greater the phase separation was. The DSC results showed that the PBT/PET blend system was compatible in amorphous region, but incompatible in crystalline region.
