Determination of polymerization degree of plant cellulose by viscosimetry

A viscosimetry method for determining the polymerization degree of plant cellulose was described as follows: measuring the flow time of saturated cuene (CED) solution and plant cellulose-CED solution of the fixed concentration out of a capillary viscometer, calculating the intrinsic viscosity according to Martin formula and the polymerization degree according to Mark equations. The average polymerization degree of cellulose cotton pulp was measured as 546 - 556 by this method. This method had high accuracy and low relative error below 1.5%with utilizing simple apparatus.
