Rheological behavior of polyformaldehyde during melt spinning process

The rheological behavior of polyformaldehyde(POM) was measured with a Rheograph 2002 capillary rheometer. The results showed that POM melt was pseudoplastic non-Newtonian fluid within the study range of shearing rate(γ) and temperature. The apparent viscosity(η_a) of POM melt dropped with the elevation of temperature andγ.The dependence ofη_a on temperature obeyed Andrade equation.The viscous flow activation energy decreased with the increase ofγ.The melting time had a slight effect onη_a of POM and the melt spinning process of POM proceeded smoothly below 220℃.
