PDF Control for Rotational Speed Using Back Emf Transducer
This paper is concerned with a method for control of DC motor speed usiag Pseudo- Derivative-Feedback (PDF) control with a back emf transducer. This approach to control system design was first advocated by Professor R. M. Phelan at Cornell University. Such controller is known to possess good transient behaviour to step changes and to be extremely good at alleviating output deviations due to load changes. Back emf transducer has a simple structure and can avoid having to attach a general speed transducer. For comparison purpose, the system was also studied using a tachometer as the speed transducer. The results showed that the control system using back emf transducer has a small dead zone. However, its output has less ripple and better linear behavior than that of the system using tachometer.
