A Study on The Welding Process with A Low Temperature Synchro Heating ( LTSH ) for Preventing Hot Cracking in Welding LY12cz Aluminium Alloy

In this paper, the effects of low temperature synchro heating ( LTSH ) of the base metal on preventing solidification cracking are investigated when welding LY12cz aluminium alloy sheet. The results show that LTSH is a simple but effective means to prevent hot cracking. Considerable influence of the prescribed positions of LTSH on preventing hot cracking is shown. LTSH inhibites hot cracking during welding LY12cz aluminium alloy sheet, when the heat torches are positioned behind and aside the welding gun. If the heat torches are placed after but in alignment with the welding gun, the cracking tendency in creases. Therefore, it is very important to select suitable and precise location of LTSH for preventing hot cracking. The LTSH slightly increases the extent of the softened zone in base metal.
