Optimization of Midship Section Structure of Large Crude Oil Carrier Based on Genetic Algorithm

The optimization of the midship section structure of a large crude oil carrier with genetic algorithm based on DNV rules is introduced.The optimization model with 20 design variables and extract 32 constraint conditions from DNV rules about longitudinal strength and buckling strength is established.Correspondingly,the genetic algorithm model is then built for the optimum design.Results from example show that the value of objective function i.e.the weight of cargo tank sturcture per unit length decreases by 5.2% indicating a good validity of genetic algorithm in the optimization of large crude oil carrier structure.
