Liquid level measurement by TDR method of RF signal

This paper proposed the method of liquid level measurement by the response of radio frequency signal in the time domain to testing the liquid level in the containers.The S11 parameter of self-designed probe was tested by network analyzer,and the reflectance signals of atmosphere and water in the frequency domain were attained.Through fast Fourier transform,the signals were converted into time domain.By the changes of media around the probe,the reflectance signal changed.This identified the signal propagation time in the media.The liquid level was determined by the propagation velocity of signal.The results show that the changing of liquid level can be accurately measured by this method.Moreover,the method is especially suitable for multi-layer liquid level measurement.
