Joint measurements of surface pressure fluctuations and near-wall turbulent flow at the stern of an underwater vehicle model

In order to investigate the unsteadiness characteristics of the turbulent flow in the thick boundary layer region at the stern of underwater vehicle,the wall pressure fluctuations and near-wall turbulent flow were jointly measured with an axisymmetric bare body with and without big appendages in CSSRC Wind Tunnel.The experimental data were processed by means of correlation calculation and wavelet analysis.The result shows that,within the thick stern boundary layer,the fluctuated surface pressure contains relatively less and stable frequencies,which means the direct relation with large scale coherence structures.However,the near-wall turbulent flow reflects the eddy behaviors with various scales.It is characterized with the main components located in low frequency domain.The analysis of cross-correlation between the fluctuated surface pressure and near-wall turbulent flow demonstrates that the larger the distance away from the wall,the smaller the maximal correlation coefficients.The influences of different appendages and Reynolds numbers upon the characteristics of the stern turbulence are also investigated in detail.
