Research on structural performance of restored ancient earthen emplacement

The mechanics performance of rammed earth is influenced by soil material,component,and particle size.In China,there is no norm in the evaluation of structure property of ancient rammed-earth emplacement repaired.The study on mechenics and performance of structures is very important to the protection of ancient rammed-earth buildings and the standard of earthen architectural design.Taking Jiaoshan Ancient Empalcement(JAE) as an example,this paper tested mechanical properties of ancient rammed earth;and then,the authors established its constitutive relation for analyzing static and dynamic performance.The research result shows that the structure of JAE is stable,and the damage is mainly due to the the structure′s decreased carrying capacity caused by long-term erosion of wind and rain and weathering.This method can be used to the maintenance and protection of similar ancient earthen buildings.
