Research of ultrasonic TOFD image calibration based on mathematical morphology algorithm

To realize the automatic and precise calibration of ultrasonic TOFD(time of flight diffraction),a calibration method based on the mathematical morphology algorithm is presented.According to the characteristic of TOFD image,a lateral/longitudinal/back wave zone was set up.The Gaussian Burred noise image was restored by using filter.The image of the lateral and back wave zone was enhanced through the algorithm of mathematical morphology erosion and dilation operation.Then the edge of the lateral and back wave was obtained.Finally,progressive probabilistic Hough transform algorithm and method on the peak detection were developed,which can calculate the position of the lateral wave precisely.The experiments show that the algorithm is accurate and robust.The calibration procedure is convenient,which supports the technical guarantee for the defection auto-analysis of TOFD system.
