Congestion identification of crossing waterway based on complex network

In order to accurately recognize the complex situation of ships in crossing waterway and improve channel management efficiency,a definition of crossing waterway congestion is established according to the formation process of ship congestion. The weighted network model reflecting the overall complexity of ships in the crossing waterway is established based on characteristics of ship encounter and complex networks theory. At last,the weighted network model is testfied through computation using actual VTS(vessel traffic system) data in Shanghai port. The experimental results show that the proposed model can accurately reflect the complexity of ships in crossing waterway,which provides decision making for carrying out effective waterway management measures.
