Calculation and analysis on shallow water resistance of inland fat cargo ships

With the continuous construction of the level-two or-three channels and the strengthening of the concept of green shipping, the technical and economic performance of the main kiloton cargo ship plays an important role in the shipping benefit and the green environment. In inland waterways, with the increase of ship draft, the shallow water effect is more and more obvious, and the resistance of inland water fat ship is increasing sharply. So in the premise of maintaining the ship′s length, width, depth, draft and LCB unchanged, the related series of ships are generated by changing the square coefficient, and then the CFD method is applied to different depth draft ratio to further analyze and study the resistance coefficients of the series of ships at different speeds. The spectrum of residual resistance coefficients are numerically processed, the friction coefficient formula is modified, and a simple and reliable GUI program of resistance calculation by MATLAB tool is introduced. Our study has a certain reference value in the estimation of inland navigation vessel performance.
