Preparation and Performance of MgO-type Expansive Agent

ZHAO Xia, DENG Min(College of Materials Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Technology Nanjing, JS 210009, China)  
A novel MgO-type expansive agent was prepared using magnesium-rich minerals. The agent is used for concrete with a great deal of fly ashto compensate the shrinkage of dam concrete caused by temperature stress. The expansion of cement pastes autoclaved or cured in 40 ℃ water has been studied. The results show that the expansion will augment with the increasing quantity of expansive material and extending curing time. After 120 days, the trend of expansion will get gentle. The expansion performance of traditional MgO expansive agent is suppressed by increasing quantity of fly ash, and this will be improved by using novel MgO-type expansive agent.
