THE INVERSION OF TECTONIC STRESS FIELD IN NORTH CHINA FROM ACTUAL STRESS MEASUREMENTS

An Qimei Sun Shizong Liu Yuzhuo (Seismo-geological Brigade, State Seismological Bureau)  
In this paper the tectonic stress field in North China is inversed from the actual str- ess measurements by the finite element method. It has been determined that the external forces of this area are N70°E and nearly E-W. In addition, the maximum principal stre- ss concentration zone, the maximum shear stress concentration zone and faults under the maximum principal stress are also pointed out. These data can be used as a reference for analyzing the stress field in North China and selecting the measuring points in further stress measurement as well as investigating the fault activity in this area.
