Study on the Forging-pretreatment of 20CrMo Steel Gear Blank

This paper deals with the effect of forging-pretreatment on the cutability, carburizing and quenching microstructures of 20CrMo steel gear blank.In the investigation,two kinds of pretreatment processes which are slowly cooling and isothermal cooling after forging were used.The results show that the gear blanks subjected to those forging-pretreatments have better cutability. Compared with conventional normalization,the austenitic grain in carburizing state as well as the microstructure of the ferrite and pearlite after cooling are coarser,but their final quenching microstructures are similar to that in conventional normalized gear blank.
