Influence of twice hydrothermal process on the photocatalytic hydrogen production of TiO_2 nanopowder

Anatase and rutile Ti O_2nano-powder has been synthesized by hydrothermal method with different acidity and temperature using tetrabutyl titanate(TBOT),hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid as the source material.A twice-hydrothermal-process has been adopted in the preparation of anatase or rutile powder,influence of the twice hydrothermal process on the photocatalytic hydrogen production performance of Ti O_2was investigated.The powder synthesized through the first and the second hydrothermal process was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),Raman spectra,BET surface area by nitrogen adsorption,photoluminescence(PL),diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible spectra(UV-Vis),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM).Hydrogen production performance of the synthesized Ti O_2photocatalyst was characterized via water splitting.The results show that,after experienced the twice hydrothermal process,the H_2production rate of anatase has been improved about five times comparing to that of the first process,while the H_2production rate of rutile is reduced to 2/5 of the first process.The results offer new insight of producing high efficient photocatalyst for water splitting by the simple twice hydrothermal process to anatase Ti O_2photocatalyst.
