A fluorescent sensor molecule based on ethidium mercaptan and aldehyde deprotection was designed and synthesized. With the addition of mercury ions, the fluorescence emission wavelength shifted from 426 to 510 nm,and the mechanism of intramolecular charge transfer( ICT) process. Relative to other common heavy metal ions, the sensor molecule exhibits high selectivity, sensitivity and rapid response to Hg~(2+). Its response time to Hg~(2+)ions only takes 50 seconds. At the same time, under the optimal experimental conditions, the detection limit of Hg~(2+)of the probe is 0. 091 7 mg/L.
