Synthesis and characterization of a novel thiophene-based diphosphine ligand

Thiophene and its derivatives have attracted more and more interests due to their unique structure and properties. 2,5-dimethylthiophene was used as starting material,by halogenation and reacted with n-butyllithium,thiopheneyldilithium reagent was obtained and further reacted with chlorodiphenylphosphine,the title compound 3,4-bis( diphenylphosphino)-2,5-dimethylthiophene was synthesized. The structure of the title compound was characterized and confirmed by NMR(~1 H、~(13)C and ~(31)P NMR) 、FT-IR、LC-MS-TOF spectra. It provided a precursor for synthesis of luminescent metal complexes in the further step. As far as we know,this compound has been rarely reported.
